Summary of Research
Barros, B., Read, T., Verdejo, M. F. (2008). Virtual collaborative experimentation: an approach combining remote and local labs. IEEE Transactions on Education 51(2) 242-250.
This paper presented how a Web-based experiment portal and tools could support distance learning in science. Specifically, it used different configurations of student collaboration online and physically during prelabs, labs, and postlabs. Results showed that the addition of virtual laboratory scenarios encouraged student reflection, greatly improved the learning of material, and made real lab work more efficient.
